A party of Titanic proportions
It does not matter how old you are, 5 or 80 years old, if you get Titanic fever you must follow it! The party ship departed but this time it did not sink. I started by downloading the plans, the real plans for the boat and figured out how to translate them into a cake and a piñata to the best of my abilities.
I started the piñata from scratch- that means cardboard, staples, glue, a lot of imagination and late nights. It took about 2 weeks to complete as I could only work about 1 to 2 hours a day. I also needed time for the papier mache to dry in between layers. It was very rewarding to see the final piece, complete with flags and all.
The cake took about 8 hours - it is a butter sponge, covered in buttercream. It has at least 5 layers of sheet cake to get the right height. The windows are chocolate chips. You can eat everything in that cake except the flag poles!! I debated whether to put the iceberg in, but I guess you could not have a Titanic without an iceberg.

Your work on these are amazing! I am planning a Titanic-themed birthday party for my son. He will be 9 and is crazy about the Titanic's history. He's asked for a sinking cake, and I've found a couple of ideas for games. I would love to have more info on how you made the pinata. I can't even find a basic pinata that I could modify online.
ReplyDeleteTanya,
ReplyDeleteI did the pinata from scratch. I will be doing a post on the detailed how to soon.

ReplyDeleteTanya,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment - I will expand the explanation on the post today - Hopefully you will find it useful. I may even have pictures of some of the steps somewhere. Let me look and keep and eye on the posts for this week. Please let me know how your party turns out. We are still very much a "titanic" fan family. BTW you should take them to the Titanic museum in Branson MI - it is so fun - it is shaped like the boat.
Admiring the time and effort you put into your blog and detailed information you offer!.. cakes in alabama
