The summer is here and that for us means camping! and camping means S'mores!
I love this little American treat. I remember when I first moved to the US, we went camping with some friends and they kept talking about the S'mores they were going to make. I did not know what they were and they could not believe there was a person in the world that had not try nor knew what a S'more was!
Anyhow, they introduced me to this wonderful melted chocolate and marshmallow sandwich and I have been hooked ever since. We apparently have to thank the girls scouts of the 1920's for this marvelous treat - they use to call them "Some More" sandwiches, now we call them smores or s'mores.
Now making s'mores is relatively easy, but making the PERFECT smore takes some technique. Here is how I make mine. You can watch the video or follow the instructions - whatever you prefer.
How to make the perfect s'more:
Ingredients for 1 sandwich:
- 1 graham cracker broken carefully in half
- A piece of chocolate of approximately the same size as the crackers (3 Hershey rectangles are perfect) - For a treat try chocolate with hazelnuts or almonds on it!
- 1 marshmallow
- 1 long wooden stick
- A nice fire!
First make sure you have a nice wood fire going!
I think the most important piece of making s'mores is preparation. Make sure you have all the pieces in order before you start roasting your marshmallows. So, cut your graham crackers and place them on a plate, table, chair.... cut the chocolate also into the right size.
Pinch a marshmallow with your wooden stick and roast it slowly on the fire.
Turn your stick around so the marshmallow is roasted evenly. If you like it a little burnt like me - get it close to the flames and let it catch on fire - quickly remove it from the flames and blow on the marshmallow to extinguish the flames. So yum!!!
Now you need to act quickly. Put the chocolate on top of one half cracker.
Then the roasted marshmallow on top of the chocolate, cover with the other half and squeeze a little.
Carefully twist the stick as you pull it out of the smore. Once the stick is out, squeeze a bit more until all the gooey goodness of the marshmallow comes out from the sides.
And that is it!!! I beg you cannot eat only one.
ohhh I so want one s'more right now!
ayyyy, que rico se ve!! me comerĂa uno ahora mismo,MMm!
