Going back into the Language swing!

After a few weeks of vacation during the Holidays, the kids started back on their Spanish classes last week.     We had to change my son's schedule again as we got him into swimming and the classes were at the same time. I hope that decision does not interfere with his learning. So far he seems content, but you never know with him - as he still is very against learning a new language.

I am so glad the people at Language Stars are so accommodating as we keep changing him from class to class, and they have always helped us find the best class that fits our schedule. It also helps that they have quite a few classes for each level so there are plenty of classes to choose for.

I sometimes feel that we are so over scheduling the kids, and I find it quite difficult to let go of any of the activities, particularly Spanish as it is so close to my heart. I keep finding excuses as to why certain class needs to stay. Here is an example, starting this January, my son is in: Travel soccer, piano, swimming and Spanish.
  • He loves soccer so it has to stay
  • Swimming is a lifesaving skill so it has to stay
  • Spanish is a necessity so he can communicate with my family, so.... it has to stay and
  • Piano is my husband's wish - his father was a great pianist, so guess what? it has to stay!!
Now going back to Spanish. I was quite pleased to hear the kids talking to my mom and family during the Holidays - they went a little further than their usual: Hello! how are you? fine. Te quiero mucho, here is my mum!!!

We also did a lot of vocabulary, particularly around food - they may not be able to hold a conversation, but they can ask for arepas, hallacas, pernil, perico, panquecas! They can also say Nacimiento, Niño Jesús, Reyes Magos, Arbolito! and my girl can sing the "We wish you a Merry Christmas" song in Spanish, so the time off did not all go to waste. For more I guess I have to see how the rest of the year goes. In the meantime to classes off they go!
