Gardening 101: How to harvest Garlic?

I just harvested my first garlic crop and I am so happy! The bulbs are a
Iittle smaller than the ones you get at the supermarket, but I know they will be ten times as good. These are hardneck garlic and I cannot wait to try them. I did pull a few a couple of months ago to eat as green garlic and they were yummy.

You will know when your garlic is ready when the foliage dies. Then, you simply pull then out of the ground. Let them dry outside for a day and voila you have garlic!

I wanted to do the beautiful garlic braids that you see at some markets but I could'nt as the stems were too hard. I will find out why and let you know. Maybe it was the type of garlic.

In a few weeks it will be time to plant the garlic again. Click here for instructions on how to plant garlic in the Fall
